- Tasting Notes
A moderate application frames markedly earthy aromas of purple fruit, game, herbal tea and discreet spice elements. The sleek, rich and velvety medium weight plus flavors possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a serious and muscular but not really austere finale. This sneaky long effort will require at least 6 to 8 years of patience and 12 to 15 would be better.

Bright medium red. Medicinal black cherry, licorice, minerals, fresh herbs and a whiff of mint on the nose. Tactile, chewy and deep, showing penetrating limestone minerality (from shallow, rocky soil in Grand Maupertuis) buffered by a seductive touch of sweetness. A very solid style of Clos Vougeot but with plenty of inner-mouth tension. This will require a minimum of seven or eight years of cellaring.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine du Clos Frantin has an earthy bouquet, quite animal with a touch of brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, dry fruit and a rather enervated finish that does not urge you back to the glass. This showed well out of barrel, but this sample was vexing. Tasted September 2017.
