- Tasting Notes
This is quite aromatically complex if markedly less elegant with its aromas of humus, pungent earth and sauvage nuances on the red currant and dark pinot fruit scents. There is very solid mid-palate concentration to the broad-shouldered flavors that also possess a refined mouth feel before culminating in a strikingly persistent, balanced and equally complex finish. This is very firm and will need a minimum of 8 to 10 years of bottle age first.

Round and supple, exuding black cherry, black currant, leather, coffee and spice flavors. The civilized tannins are coated with flesh as this cruises to a long, kaleidoscopic aftertaste.

Full deep red. Captivating perfume of raspberry, iron, white pepper, dried rose and white flowers. Intensely flavored and vibrant, showing outstanding inner-mouth energy to its flavors of red fruits, flowers and saline minerality. The long finish boasts superb floral lift. Christophe Perrot-Minot keeps this wine in a reduced state in barrel, noting that it has a tendency to open much faster than the Mazoyères-Chambertin.

The 2012 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from 0.80-hectares of 50-year old vine located just below Chambertin, has a sensual bouquet: very pure and vivacious with blueberry and dark cherry fruit laced with flinty scents. The palate is very well balanced with wonderful clarity. It is silky smooth (as usual) with this domaine, very focused with a pure dark cherry and white pepper tinged finish. Fine.
