A notably ripe but very fresh nose offers up notes of plum, dark berries and forceful earth and game characters. There is fine power and very fine mid-palate concentration to the big-bodied flavors that possess plenty of mouth coating dry extract that buffers the moderately firm tannic spine on the impressively long finish. This is not a refined Gevrey but it delivers first rate quality for a villages level wine. Recommended.

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from vines with an average age of 60 year matured entirely in new oak. It has a ripe, vivacious bouquet with floral scents. The palate is structured on the entry with crisp acidity, the oak neatly entwined with the intense, citrus-driven red and black fruit that dovetail into a structured, grippy finish. This is a serious Gevrey and it will surely age with style and grace.

Bright medium red. Cherry liqueur and menthol aromas show a slightly medicinal character. Very ripe, powerful raspberry, black cherry, chocolate, licorice and menthol flavors reminded me a bit of grenache! Began a touch blurry with alcohol but settled down to display a juicy quality and excellent energy. A very rich village wine.
