- Tasting Notes
Here the unusually expressive nose is more floral in character with ample spice elements on the earthy dark berry and Asian tea-suffused aromas. There is good richness to the supple, rich and relatively forward flavors that possess a generous mid-palate though the vibrant and stony finish immediately tightens up. Like the Malconsorts this intensely mineral-driven effort is somewhat less structured than usual though it certainly doesn’t lack for power and punch.

Bright, dark red. Pure aromas of raspberry, strawberry and clove, with hints of pepper and herbs from the stems. In a silky but distinctly cool style, with racy acidity sharpening the flavors of dark fruits and flowers and giving the wine excellent inner-mouth tension. Finishes firmly tannic, long and perfumed, with substantial dusty tannins and sexy spicy high tones.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine du Clos Frantin (Albert Bichot) has a sedate, very fine bouquet with redcurrant, raspberry preserves, cold stone and dried rose petal aromas that gradually unfold in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, very poised but it tightens up quite sharply toward the finish. It will need several years to develop more body and flesh, but it will. Tasted September 2017.
