- Tasting Notes
As is usually the case this is Clair’s best Marsannay and so it is again in 2014 with its less expressive but more complex and elegant nose that combines notes of red currant, earth, spice and subtle sauvage elements. Here too there is excellent delineation and verve to the delicious, intense and focused medium-bodied flavors that also terminate in a mildly austere but not really rustic finish where a hint of bitter cherry pit appears. This will require at least a few years of patience and should amply reward up to a decade’s worth.
– Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, Score: 89
The 2014 Marsannay les Longeroies is a big step up in terms of aromatic complexity from the Longeroies with ebullient blackberry and raspberry, light cola notes, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, fine tannin with satisfying tension towards the finish. I like the weight and focus, the way it channels its energy and I suspect it will lie at the top of my score bracket once in bottle.
