- Tasting Notes
Here the nose is notably more elegant with its airy and cool aromas of cherry, spice, soft earth and a hint of underbrush. There is good richness to the very round medium-bodied flavors that retain a good sense of vibrancy on the detailed and austere finish. There is an edginess to the backend that is borderline tough. Dugat has a fine track record with this wine but it didn’t show particularly well and I have concerns as to whether it will harmonize. Note: my suggested drinking window assumes that the tannins will round out in time but I would advise those who own this to check in on it from time to time to be sure that the fruit isn’t drying out.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru is more serious and introverted than the Village Cru at the moment, the fruit veering darker. The palate has a pastille-like purity, very well balanced, but already showing more density than the Village Cru with plenty of substance on the finish. This is yet to show character but all the constituent parts are here. It may merit a higher appraisal post-bottling.
